Free online drawing classes for beginners with certificates
Drawing is an art that you can learn and get better at with time and practice. You can learn to draw in a lot of different ways, like by taking classes at your local community college or online training.
Mastering the art of drawing is very different from learning how to draw. It can take a long time to get good at something. But if you work hard and put in the time, you can learn to draw in less than two months.

What is Drawing? (Drawing Definition)
Drawing is an art form that involves making marks on paper or other surfaces with pencils, pens, or other tools. It can be a way to show how you feel, what you think, or what you’ve noticed. Drawing can be done in many different ways, from being realistic to being abstract.
It can also be used for many different things, like art, drawing, design, or communication. Drawing can be a hobby that is fun and relaxed, or it can be a job that takes years of practice and training. It can also be used to write down thoughts, make plans, or come up with visual ideas.
Some people draw as a form of therapy or meditation, while others use it to explain complicated ideas or tell stories. No matter why you want to draw, it can be a fun and satisfying experience for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Can Anyone Learn To Draw?
Is drawing a talent or a skill?
Learning to draw is possible. You can teach yourself to draw. Anyone can learn to draw given enough time and effort, however, natural ability will speed up the process.
“Naturally talented” artists are typically merely those with a higher level of visual/spatial intelligence.
“Repetition is the mother of skill.” -Tony Robbins
That person has an innate talent for visual comprehension, spatial awareness, color perception, and other visual skills.
You can get better at sketching quicker if you have talent. Even if you lack natural ability, you can still achieve success by working hard and putting in the necessary time.
This natural talent is helpful, but no one is born with the skill to create works of art with ideal proportions, perspective, and color.
It takes a lot of practice and effort to become a skilled artist.
Why are Drawing Skills Important?
Drawing skills are essential for numerous reasons:
- Drawing can help people improve their ability to communicate because it gives them a way to show what they are thinking and feeling.
- It can help you get better at using your hands and eyes together.
- Drawing can help you relax and can also be used as a form of therapy.
- It can also help people be more creative and imaginative by letting them imagine and make up new ideas.
- Drawing is a useful skill that is used in many fields, such as building, engineering, fashion design, and advertising.
- It can help you become a better observer and pay more attention to details, which are important skills in many jobs.
- Drawing can be a fun hobby that gives you a sense of satisfaction and achievement.
- It can help people come up with ideas and solve problems by letting them see how their ideas and answers fit together.
Free Online Drawing Classes for Beginners ( Adults and Kids)
1. Drawing Basics | Proko (Proko)
Drawing Basics | Proko, a free course on YouTube by Proko, is my first choice for the best online drawing school.
No matter what you want to draw, you should always start with the basics. I put this course at the top of the list because of this. This free course will teach you everything you need to know about drawing, from how to hold your pencil to lines and shading to more advanced techniques that will make it easy for you to draw anything.
What You’ll Learn
In this class, you’ll learn how to hold and control your pencil, as well as the basics of shape, value, color, and line. You’ll learn how to shade light and form, how to shade a drawing, how to draw motions, and how to use contrast, form, perspective, details, and forms that overlap.
After that, you’ll learn about the drawing tools you’ll need for longer drawings and find out how to avoid making the most common coloring and drawing mistakes. You’ll learn how to draw realistic lines, how to draw anything, and how to measure drawings.
Last, you’ll learn how to use sketchbooks and paper, as well as how to sharpen pencils. You’ll learn how to make your shapes look better by making them simpler, how to improve your shading, and how to use different kinds of lines to make pictures that are beautiful and full of feeling.
2. Learn to Draw (SchaeferArt)
Learn to Draw, a free course by SchaeferArt on YouTube, is my second choice for the best online drawing school.
This class will teach you how to draw, sketch, shade, use lines, perspective, measurements, values, edges, and other things. It is made for people who have never drawn before and will help them feel better about themselves and have fun while they learn. The course starts at the beginning and goes through every step in detail.
What you’ll find out
In this class, you will learn how to draw and what supplies you need to get started. You’ll learn how to simplify shapes, add shading, and make a sense of depth. There are also lessons on how to sketch from life and pay attention to edges to make drawings that look real.
The course also talks about things like compositional rules, sketchbook trips, and how to get better at drawing. By the end of this course, you’ll know how to draw well and have the tools you need to keep getting better.
3. Kline Creative Art Classes for Beginners
OK, here’s another website that isn’t perfect but has a lot of good stuff hidden in links. John C. Kline, who went to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and now draws for a living, made these lessons.
There are 14 lessons, each named “Drawing Lesson [number],” and a set of videos called “speed drawing” that show how to draw things quickly, like a werewolf or a face with charcoal. Each class is a video lesson with a voiceover and real-world examples to follow.
4. Rapid Fire Art Sketching and Drawing courses online
Rapid Fire Art is exactly what it sounds like, but not in the sense that you can go from drawing a square to shading the Sistine Chapel in a few minutes. The instructor, an experienced artist named Darlene, describes her videos as “a series of fun and easy tutorials that will improve your drawing skills quickly.”
The lessons are broken up into short, organized movies that are all part of a bigger lesson plan. There are two to three lessons in each of the five levels, which are called “the building blocks of art,” “the devil’s in the details,” “techniques to step up your game,” “how to shade realistic textures,” and “wrapping it up.”
5. How to Draw with Jerry’s Artarama
OK, just a moment–Even though this website looks like the Sears website from 2002, it’s my favorite place to take free online drawing classes. These lessons are taught by professional artists who have degrees to show them.
Instead of focusing on the basics of sketching a face, the website offers quick classes on anatomy, animals, landscapes, and collages. One of the best things about taking lessons from Jerry’s Artamama, a company that sells cheap art tools, is that the platform picks out the materials you need for each video and tells you to “add to cart.” Normally, this would bother me, but in these times of social distance, I’m glad for any chance to give.
FAQ
How to find the best drawing course for you?
When looking for a drawing class, there are a few things you should think about carefully. Not every drawing class is for the same people. Some are for newbies, some are for kids, and some are for experts.
And because “art” is such a broad term, drawing classes focus on many different kinds of art, including digital art. With so many options, it can be hard to choose the right drawing class.
But don’t worry, we have you covered!
Before you think about taking a drawing lesson or buying one, make sure you know what you want to get out of it. This guide could help you figure out what to do.
Expertise Level
You don’t necessarily need to have worked in the field before having your degree of knowledge taken into account. You can, in fact, begin with nothing. If you’re just starting out, you may find some great courses that will guide you every step of the way until you’ve created your own original work of art using what you’ve learned.
Are you just starting out? Can you even sketch a stick figure? Have you done any independent work on this? How long will this be going on? Have you ever enrolled in a drawing course? Do you wish to become an expert in a particular field?
Training Timeframe
The length of a course is usually an important consideration when trying to identify motivating factors, as each one has been developed independently by a variety of teachers, academies, locations, etc. The length of a course is not necessarily indicative of its quality or your ability to learn how to draw by its conclusion. There are courses that require several weeks of dedication, while others may be completed in as little as a few hours. Not all courses are created equal; while some move slowly and include numerous examples, others move quickly but provide extensive coverage of the topic at hand.
Skill center
We can depict almost anything with a pencil and paper. Portraiture, the rudiments of drawing, and life drawing are common topics in introductory art classes. On the other hand, that is not always what we require.
Price
The cost is another important factor to think about. Art classes can cost anywhere from zero to over $2,000, depending on the institution, teacher, location, syllabus, and amount of individual attention students receive from their tutors. However, there is not much variety or pricing available in drawing classes.
A $20 drawing course with plenty of students and not much in the way of teaching can be a good deal, as can a more expensive, specialized course or even private instruction.
